Hello and welcome to my newsletter! I’m so glad to have you!!
This newsletter is all about the joy of cooking for yourself. I started solidly cooking for myself about six years ago, and I’ve since discovered recipes, techniques, and tricks that have brought me to where I am today—someone who feels really comfortable experimenting in the kitchen, and finds joy from cooking when it’s just for me. I also have an Instagram page I created when I moved to New York, where I document my cooking escapades! You can check out the page that started it all, here.
I’m hoping to be able to use this Substack to connect with people more directly, and have a stronger archive of all the recipes I’ve created over the years. Ideally, I’d love to make it so you can search for ingredients and find a bunch of recipe ideas, which is a similar method to how I approach cooking every day.
And a word about that method…I might have a different cooking style than most people—I tend to buy ingredients and foods first, then find recipes that highlight those. If a recipe calls for something I don’t have in my pantry, I’ll more likely substitute it with something I do have, rather than run out to the store.
So in that vein, these recipes will be a little different from what you typically see! I’ll rarely give measurements. There will be lots of suggestions for substitutions. And most of all, the portions will be for one person! No more math!!
When you start cook for yourself, you end up getting to know your own palate, what you like to eat, and what you tend to have in your kitchen. I’ve always found I learn best when I use recipes as a jumping off point to experiment with the flavors and ingredients that I like. So hopefully the style of this newsletter will inspire you to do that as well, and you’ll eventually find your own approach and methods!
I’ll be honest, I get so disappointed when I hear someone doesn’t like cooking for themselves. I’m really hoping I can inspire people to love themselves through food, and treat everyday meals as special and important—because you deserve to have delicious meals, even when it’s just you! And a bonus—this newsletter is freeeee! At least for now, while I figure things out, I really want to just connect with you and see how this all works.
